There is no question that the ease of the job is....can you get adequate compression of the pressure plate fingers enough. This is because there is only enought horizontal space room to remove the slave cylinder if the slave cylinder can be inserted far enough into the center finger area of the pressure plate. And this can only be accomplished if the fingers are held depressing the clutch far enough to allow the slave unit to slide into the middle. The space tool works the best because it is slightly beveled on the inner edge...i.e. beside fitting in between the fingers and the pressure plate cover the beveled area gives the fingers an extra depression. My poor memmory says a wire diameter of approx .165 inches (#6 electrical wire) does the job...metal wire because it does not compress
....but lacks that extra bevel push.
One can get a seal kit for the slave (just two seals) rather easy..but some folks cut the slave plunger "nose" off so it can be slipped out without finger compression if they are replacing the slave completely. But you have to recompress the pressure plate again anyway to get it back in....so if you do or you don't...but the most important is to remember to replace the clutch shaft seal mounted in the transmission case under the slave unit....seal lips get worn and sometimes damaged when you withdraw the clutch shaft to get the slave/pressure plate out...
