It's not that bad to do. We can talk you through any Posted by RS [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Re: It depends ..., RWBreining, Fri, 19 Apr 2002 16:00:17 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
repair task here. But, to do it properly, prepare to spend a bit more money ahan you'd expect so spend. I figure that, if you DIY, the initial parts will cost you about $120 US on parts from the sponsors (who have very decent prices. But the maintenance tasks aren't that bad.
As I said before plugs should be NGK BCP-7ES (or 7EV). $2 each ($4 each for the EVs). You can get away with Bosch Platinums, but the NGKs are what the engine was designed with.
Bosch Cap and Rotor - Only get Bosch. $5 for the cap, $8-ish for the rotor.
Bougicord spark plug wires. $35-$40. These have the proper kind of RF suppression so the turbo controls won't get spurrious signals it interprets as knock.
Rubber Bushings for the vacuum nipples that go into the intake manifold and valve cover. 3@$2, 1@$1.50
Vacuum hoses. Most of the vacuum hoses are 3.5 mm. For them to last the longest, get silicone hoses from a place like NOPI. Some of the sponsors may have the hose in bulk. 15 ft (or so) @ $1 per foot. (My procedure was :take off a hose, cut new hose to same length, connect the new hose where the old hose connected, go to next hose ... Just do it one hose at a time and things don't get confused)
Fuel Filter - $15 - we'll talk you through the procedure when you get there.
Let's see what that comes to ... $106.50 plus shipping.
Www.sobstory.com, http://www.cybertroll.com, http://www.eeuroparts.com all have very good prices on these parts.
