900i- base trim level (manual windows, cloth seats, no sunroof, etc...) with a fuel injected, normally aspirated engine. I believe that the "i" designation is european, to distinguish from carburated cars. Known in the US as the SAAB 900.
900S- the same drivetrain as a 900, but more luxury options. (power windows, sunroof, power mirrors, power antenna, etc...)
The term "classic 900" refers to all SAAB 900s built from 1979-1993, and convertibles from 1994. These were replaced by the "new generation" or "NG900" Saab 900 from '94-'98.
Your '92 900S is one of the last classic models, and should be quite reliable. The only known problem from your era is that there is a chemical incompatibility between the origional head gasket, cylinder head, and coolant. If your head gasket is original, you will want to keep an eye on it. This is a one-time problem which will be completely fixed when it is addressed, so there's no need to worry if the head gasket has already been replaced.
