look at it as a #, eg. 105db, the higher the better. It measures how much noise (distortion) there is per db of signal. If it is in percentage terms, I think the lower the better.
Keep in mind that you do not need a lot of power to run mid and full range speakers, it only takes about 5 watts to make a tweeter scream, and about 10 watts to push a 6 inch woofer. Then again, watts aren't really watts when comparing audio crap; 160 watts from a CD/head unit is not the same as from a good external amp with 100 watts.
Then you figure that if you have a little more power, you don't have to turn the amp up as much, leaving you with a cleaner sound.
I run a pair of 4", pair of 6x9, and a component set 6.5" from a 25x4 watt amp, I am looking to go up to 50x4 but that is probably more than I need even.
