'93 900S 80K DIY. MB Coolant is well buffered (pH 7.6) and contains good anti-corrosion chemicals but not a short term medicine. As long as you change coolant every 2 years, there may be no difference. More important is use distilled wated to dilute. Tap water contains a lot of calcium, phosphate, and they make bad precipitates. If you have your mechanic flush Saab cooling system, the bottom line is that you CANNOT expect him/her spending a lot of time, and it DOES take a lot of time for Saab. MB Coolant does not have much color and therefore you can tell that green coolant is still there (it appears to me green dyes are fluorescet at sub-ppm concentration). If you are going to flush yourself, the Townsend manual is very informative and there are a few excellent posts in this B.B. I think whether you use MB or others depends on the current condition of your engine and how long you want to keep her. Anyway you are planning to flush, so how about changing the two upper radiator hoses, thermostat and a short bent byepath hose below thermostat. Recent survay by Jim Moncreaf showed that those parts have the highest breakdown records. Check your system carefully, and if you notice any bad sign, replace them, too. I would get the parts from eEuroparts.com or thesaabsite.com. Inspect the reservoir cap , too, and carry a bottle of water. Have a nice trip!
