Unfortunately as the case with our SPG's (my 86spg was in a fixable wreck a little more than a year ago), you'll never get all of what you put into it. now this depends on what 'cost' you would associate having the oppertunity to restore it. as crazy as it sounds, you will in a way be paying to restore it by the end. my 85900T right now, i have contemplated the same thing, selling and moving to a different year, but since i had the tranny rebuilt last summer, i have too much into the car,and would not get it all back out, so i'm keeping it indefinetly.
The comment about they not being worth more than the sum of their parts is totaly true. I got WAY more out of my 86spg by keeping it as a parts car and selling a bunch off (and getting the insurance settlement, minus the cost to keep the car), that i ever would if i fixed and sold the car. Strange with these cars, being such collector cars, that we can easily get more by selling off the parts rather than the whole. This would get you more money for sure
good luck, if anything, keep it as a winter beater for those days you really don't want to take your other spg out! have a summer and winter car, i think i'll do this in a few years, when my car is all done, i would hate the thought of road salt all over it
