Not quite sure what the trim along the front fender you've described is. Is it metal? Pin striping? I have the old style "bumper" trim which runs the length of each side of the car - a black rubber strip in a metal housing. The original color of both the rubber and metal was black, like the rest of the car's trim, but the paint over the metal was chipped and peeling, revealing a smooth silver beneath. I believe the metal is aluminum or an aluminum alloy. I decided to keep the polished aluminum look. I removed the trim and spent some time with steel wool removing the old paint and polishing the metal. So now, though all the other trim on the car is black, that length of strip is shiny silver. Goes well with the dark blue car finish, black trim and tinted windows.
If the trim you're talking about is the same as mine, and you want to keep it black, then you can either replace it or paint it. Just make sure the paint you use can be applied to bare metal. If not, then a primer is needed. The other tip for painting trim is to remove it first, as that makes for a better job overall. The trim along the windows - it is possible to paint over those, again, being sure the paint you use will "stick" to the prepared metal surface. I repainted the black window trim on my car with a flat black spray paint. It was black to begin with, but faded with age. One year later and it still looks good. Just use plenty of masking tape and newspaper around the work area and spray away! And be careful with runs!
