Hi, Todd!
You looked through my old posts? All 500+ of them? It was back on 6 November, 2000, when I wrote about replacing my hooter valve. No wonder you didn't find it! :>
I put the link below so you can just click there. There were some interesting followup posts in that thread, too, so take a look at them, too.
The Bosch valve I got is a little different internally than the stock hooter -- supposedly more robust. You can see the metal reinforcement disc over the diaphram in the Bosch unit. The heftier hooter opens and closes at the same level of vacuum (I tested it with my MityVac to see), but it can withstand higher pressures without damage. Thus, it will work just fine in an unmodified car. If you're running higher than stock boost, it's insurance against the diaphram blowing out. I'd say go ahead and get it even if you're not doing other upgrades... it won't change your performance any, but it will last longer than a stock replacement. It's just a better part.
Replacing the hooter is a pretty easy do-it-yourself task. It'll take you about an hour if you take your time and work carefully... if you've done it before you can probably swap one out in 15 minutes. Go for it!
