how to test knock sensor?

do i really have to remove the intake manifold to get at this thing to check it out? the reason i have to do this is that my apc solenoid is ticking and i am only getting a few lbs. of boost. so, i suspect that the problem is within the apc system. i tried about five different solenoid valves, replaced a torn boot, changed plugs and wires, and put in a new by-pass valve. i have also tried two apc's. the only other things i can think to check (electrically) are the knock sensor and the pressure transucer. it is also a possiblity that there are vacuum leaks under the dash, or somewhere else that's well hidden. i can't find them, but my idle is bouncy in the cold, and it sputters after i let the throttle off, even once warmed up. alright, the question i'm getting at here is whether or not i have to pull the intake maniflod to check the knock sensor. thanks.
