Firing order should be on the cylinder head under the spark plug cover. If you swapped the wires one at a time, it should be ok.
A cracked HE connector plug could prevent the car from starting. It sends the ignition amplifier the signals to create the spark for running the car.
I'd try holding the connector onto the distributor with tape or nylon wire ties (I did that on my '88 SPG) and try starting it. It's worth a try.
