I just completed a head gasket job on my '85 SPG. I purchased an Elring Gasket Set from a local Auto Parts Store. Elring makes OEM Saab gaskets. The set included intake, exhaust and head gaskets, valve seals and cam oiler tube fittings. I found Tom Townsend's Technical Bulletin on the subject to be invaluable (go to the townsend imports ad under 'sponsors' on this site. It filled the gaps in the Bentley Manual. Take your time.....do a bunch of other upgrades/maintenance while you're in there.....i.e. thermostat, hoses (heater, rad and vacuum)timing chain tensioner, belts, etc.. While my head was in the shop for refurbishment I did a lot of cleaning and detailing in the engine bay. I also had my exhaust manifold planed as it was quite warped. This ensures a nice flat fit to the head (no more exhaust leaks) and helps to prevent breaking exhaust studs when torquing down the manifold. I had the exhaust manifold "plasti-beaded" which removed all of the rust and scale....it looks brand new. Good luck....it will be worth the effort if you do it right!
