It is true that you will have to swim through tons of aesthetic crap to get to the real tech stuff on VWvortex, but it is there. The reason for all of the cosmetic stuff on the site is that A: VW's don't have nearly as many PIA problems that our SAABS do, and B: the few problems that there are are usally pathetically easy to remedy. VW built their company on a car that is famously easy to fix (the aircooled motor) and the same has stood true to present date. Yes, the new VW's are still easy to work on, although I've never had a chance to fiddle with a VR6 or the new W8 engines, which are totally unique engines, and of VERY crafty and downright COOL design. If anyone reading this who knows anything about typical engine layouts hasn't seen a diagram of a VR6 or especially the new W8, I highly suggest that you check one out somewhere online. I would like to have a blueprint of both engines merely to hang on my wall as art. They are that good. I kinda doubt that they'll run on fryer grease anymore though. OK, enough VW on the SAAB board, now it's time for more "howcome i gotta switch thermostats every spring and fall?".
