Fuel pump is not too hard to change, I did mine a few years ago. Pump alone was about $150. If you replace the entire assembly its way more expensive.

Quick check... The fuel pressure regulator has a vacuum hose coming off it. This hose should NOT have any gasoline inside. If it does, FPR is bad.

But since you smell gasoline, I bet your problem is ignition. One more time - does you tachometer bounce around when you crank the engine? Or is the needle completely dead? This is an important clue.

Check the wiring connector at the amplifier which is on the coil mounting bracket on your right fender. Check ground wires at the crossmember below radiator, near battery (I believe ECU or EZK or something important is grounded there).

One last thing... Get new spark plugs for after you get this fixed. I once had a minor flooding problem that turned into a major PITA. After I fixed it the engine still wouldn't start. I thought I cleaned & dried the plugs, but the car still wouldn't start until I put new plugs in.

BTW, how old are the plugs, cap, wires, etc??
