I was one of the silly folks who accidentally bought a 16 valve Bently when I own an 8-valve....most stuff is the same, but when it comes to the FI, radical differences exist. Luckily, I have a Volkswagen K-Jetronic manual, but the items on the bellows are Saab specific.

Assuming the deceleration valve really does what it says it is supposed to do (cut off fuel to the cylinders) it could have something to do with my problems assuming a bad one can cut out the fuel when it isn't supposed to - I suspect a dead one just doesn't ever cut the fuel...I may detach the power and see what happens.

The temp sensor shouldn't be a culprit - even if it wasn't functioning, in this early-summer weather, driveability wouldn't suffer too much regardless.

As for when this problem happens...it CAN happen at any time, with a hot or cold car (makes me think electrics, or mechanical - but not vacuum). If the car happens to stall due to the stutter (which may happen when trying to start off from a standstill), the car will refuse to restart. I've tested the system in the no-start condition and while I have adequate spark, and there is fuel going into the fuel distributor, there is no fuel flowing out of the fuel distributor - so assuming the no-start issue is connected with the stutter issue, I've got a fuel cutout on initial acceleration...but only after deceleration. Normal driving at highway speeds does not cause the stutter.

So my thoughts are that the AFM/Fuel Distributor connection is somehow glitchy or some other item is causing a signal telling things not to deliver fuel (deceleration valve?).

I'm heading to the pull-a-part junkyard this weekend and I'm going to pull as many parts to swap out as I can find. :o)
