'86 900S air flow sensor diagnostic tips sought

This '86 900S 2.0L 16-valve idles up and down in wide swings (stalling to maybe 1500 rpm) for several minutes when started cold, then runs fairly well. Timing, throttle switch, idle speed controller, etc all check out OK. I strongly suspect the hot-wire air flow sensor, Bosch part # 0 280 212 005. Mostly you diagnose this part by replacing with a known-good which I don't happen to have on the shelf. Key-on engine-off voltage (measured at the orange wire) is about 1.6V; idle voltage 2.6V; rises to about 4V when you rev it to 3000-4000. I suspect that the idle voltage should be lower and is diagnostic for a failed sensor, but NO RELIABLE SPECIFICATIONS ARE AVAILABLE. One source tells me idle voltage should be about 0.8V; another says a little over 2V. I would be grateful for any
tips on this problem.
