1979-1993 & 94 Conv [Subscribe to Daily Digest] |
Hey
Congrats for the graduation. I'm only 14 days away myself! 13 days tomorrow.
I had an 89 900S before I got my 90 SPG which I currently own. It's tough on a student budget, but I managed to save, take out a loan, and sell my 89 900S to afford my SPG. My cousin (16 yrs old) now owns my 900S (aka "the white SPG"). It was pretty crazy for an "S"... ENKEI 16" wheels, SPG body kit, killer stero, etc.
If I was in your situation.. alot of your parts can come from a junkyard.. eg your new hood emblem (ridiculously overpriced from SAAB -- $25? $30?). I've found so many cool things in my local junkyards from other 900's, as well as 9000's! Be creative. Check out anything in your car that might be wearing, it's easy to replace it when you have everything you want at your fingertips. One of my local junkyards has probably given me $200 worth of parts for FREE! If not free, very cheap! It's alot of fun to get the peices off too.
Question is... are you interested in...
Performance?
Suspension?
Cosmetics?
You could have your resonator removed, which will make the exhuast sound very sporty for a minimal charge. Probably around $50 I'd guess. They will cut out the "extra muffler" (aka your resonator) and put in a peice of pipe to replace it. It will be slightly louder, give you SLIGHTLY better gas mileage, and SLIGHTLY better horsepower.
The spoiler. The whaletail is very expensive. Very few of us on this BB can afford them. I wish I could! I've seen them for $700 for an original. $260 fiberglass replica from SAS. The replica looks nice if you have the cash.
What I did to my 89 900S.. Went to the junkyard, pulled a rear spoiler off of an 88 900T and paid them about $40 for it. Perfect shape. Remove it by going into the trunk, pulling off the padding on the inside of the lid, and removing the screws. Should be pretty simple. You can install it yourself CAREFULLY or have someone you trust do it.
K&N intake. About $70. Improved gas milage. A SLIGHT noise comes from under the hood as it's sucking in alot more air (cool sound). And most importantly, improved horsepower!
If you'd like to discuss some other options you might be interested in, I'd love to talk. I really really had fun upgrading my 89 900S, I'm glad to see others are doing the same thing. There are some cocky 900T owners on here, so don't let them scare you by telling you that your car is not up to par. I've owned and driven both. My SPG is obviously faster than my 900S, but it is very satisfying when you feel the performance gain you feel after you upgrade it. If you want to see some advantages the S has over the Turbos, I will show you a post I put up about a year ago, when I was fighting the issue ( : Hehe
Have fun your your 91 900S, a very worthy and beautiful car!
