Hi all,
I hope the SAAB gurus here might decide to bestow upon me a bit of their SAAB wisdom. (Please!)
Here's the scenario: My Mom's 1990, a base 3-dr. w/ABS, has developed a problem last week of triggering the "ANTILOCK" dash light. It scared her when it came on because, simultaneously, the pedal get really stiff. She said "I have no brakes!" She was able to pull over and call me on her cellphone. After some prompting, I discovered her '90 DID have brakes, but the pedal was VERY stiff.
I came across town to where she had safely stopped (she thought the car had total brake failure), popped the '90's hood, and looked at the brake fluid (full). The fluid light was NOT coming on: that wasn't the problem. I check the electrical plugs, to the ABS valves and pump and, sure enough, the ABS pump's plug was loose. (At least I think that's the pump's plug: it is below the fluid res. and enters from the pass. side). It is missing it's metal retaining clip, and it is a peculiar size (that plug has a dbl. row, top: 3 terminals, bot: 2 terminals ). Any idea where I can get a clip? Should I troubleshoot further (other ABS items)? Her plug keeps doesn't fit securely to the ABS pump, but I'm not sure that's the problem. It's the only thing I could spot, though. Do the ABS computers have a self-diagnostic capability (for a DIYer)?
I would greatly appreciate any ideas on how to solve this (I don't live in a town w/a SAAB dealer, that's an hour away).
I may be able to get access to a junked '91 900. Would it's pump clip fit?
