Just in case anyone else runs across this problem - a broken hydraulic cylinder rod-end, that threads onto the hydraulic piston that's used to raise and lower the convertible top - here's how I solved it. I checked with a dealer; they sell the entire assembly only (hydraulic cylinder with rod end attached), for about $450. I called various sponsors - no part available. Called various boneyards around the Minnnesota/Wisc. area - no 900 90-93 convertibles (I think the part is the same for those years) available. I called a convertible hydraulic cylinder manufacturer, recommended by someone on this site - they told me Saab supplied hyd. cylinders were junk and for approx. $130 I could replace the entire unit, adding that it's best to change both at the same time.
I thought of having a friend machine the part, but first set out to determine the threads. Using a chart at the local Menards, I determined that the female threads on the part are either M10x1mm, or 3/8 inch x 24 threads/inch - they both fit. I noticed some similar looking parts in a McMaster-Carr catalog that we have at work. I went on line and ordered a thrust rated ball joint rod end, right handed female threads (P/N 8405K33) because the dimensions were close to the original - price is $8.82. I installed this part last night (minus the bronze bushing and rubber washer which are not required with the new part) It fit well, works like a charm, and appears stronger than the original aluminum rod end.
I hope this information is useful,
Charles
