I need advice on a ’89 SPG I am thinking of buying.
It is an odorado gray, with dark gray leather, 128Kmiles ’89 SPG, Price $3600

The GOOD:
It has a service history that goes back long (bills to prove) maintained by a SAAB specialist.
In the recent 2 years following has been repaired, headgasket (1 yr ago), left drive shaft incl boots, balljoints, thermostat, oilpump, brake pads, brake hoses, front lower control arm (left side), fresh set of Pirelli’s P6000 on the front and lots of misc small parts (can’t remember all but this is what pops up after reading through that pile of bills). Actualy thousands in bills going back at least 3 years.
Handling:
Driving is OK, boosts strong, no turbo whine, no smoke, strong clutch, tranny feels good, no vibrations while driving, fans come on as supposed, oil looks good, coolant looks good, original SAAB oil filter, brakes OK, power steering feels smooth, no visible leaks just greasy tranny, exhaust is good (fairly new) up to last muffler (maybe 2 more years before it needs replacing). Paint is OK.

The BAD. This is worrying me:
There is some welding (approx 1-2 square inch) on exhaust manifold near #3, is this a bad sign?
On starting there is a valve clicking (#3) that is loud and goes to hardly hearable when warm, but with ear on valve cover noticable, is this a bad sign (faulty lifter)? Easy fix?
The AC compressor has been removed (for what reason I don’t know), don’t actualy care about AC, up here we can count the sunny days on one hand :-)
Can hear the fuel pump, like it is resonating in the tank, is it dying?
Worn driver’s leather, small 1 inch surface rust on front wheel arch.

Price $ 3600

Any advice on the bad signs, is price OK????

What should I do?

Thanx

Emil
