Gents,

After having the motor out to install a newly rebuilt 5 speed (complete with sand blasted, clearcoated case and red, powder coated covers hee hee) looks like I missed a golden opportunity to replace the crankshaft seal and oil pump gasket. My luck being what it is and now that everything is clean, I now have oil dripping down the trans rear cover from somewhere above it. I did a quick search through the posts here and came up with enough cases of these seals going bad that it seems like a good bet that's what's leaking even though it's pretty hard to see up there.

So my questions, what's the concensus here? Bad crankshaft oil seal? And, is there any trick to getting the old one out and pressing in the new seal without the special Saab tool #such-and-such.

Looks like there is not alot of room to work with here so any tricks from those who have gone before me would be appreciated.
