85 huh? That's about the right year for the brake and clutch master cylinder's to now be going belly up. More than likely the hose which connects the fluid reservoir to the clutch master cylinder is leaking, thus explaining the oily spot. with no fluid and once you get some air in either master cylinder (the reservoir feeds both), you get pedal travel and no break/clutch. If it's just a leaky hose connection and the master cylinders are fine, once you get fluid in there and bleed the air out of both, you should be fine, assuming the master cylinders are ok. MC's from those years mostly degrade from lack of regular fluid change. I rebuilt both mc's from an 1982 900 after both died around the same time. Inside they were filthy - a combination of bad fluid, decayed rubber, and who knows what else.
