Not Positive, but...
Have a 89 900 n/t automatic, no abs.
Brakes worked perfect for years, until few weeks ago brake light came on due to fluid being a bit low.
Searched this post for brake fluid and everyone seems to recommend Castrol LMA DOT 4. So I bought this and poured into my Saab near the max level.
A week later I had trouble breaking at a stop light ( had to keep pressing brake further and further down to completely stop ).
Might be a coincidence, but I doubt it since my brakes were great until I added this fluid.
My question is: This has only happened 2 times to me, both times were during hot weather and while stopping at a red light, I had to keep pressing brake pedal further and further down until eventually using my handbrake just in case it didn't stop. After driving off from red light, brakes return to normal and they seem to brake normally now. But afraid it may happen again.
Does this mean my Master Cylinder is dying or maybe just Castrol brake fluid mixing with old brake fluid? Can anyone give me insight on whether I should just try flushing the brake fluid, or are these normal signs of the Master cylinder eventually dying. I'm afraid if I take it to my mechanic, he really wouldn't be able to diagnose, since it has only done this twice and seems to brake fine now.
thanks for reading and anyone who can reply.
