I doubt it's the fan - right after start-up, the engine is cool, and the fan comes on only when the radiator is hot.
It wouldn't be the crankshaft seal - that leaks oil, not noise. There are a few possiblities -
First, your belts are worn or loose. If you don't know the last time the belts were replaced, think about new ones. Next, they could be a little loose. You'd get some squeal on start-up, and the heat from the friction would cause them to grab a little better.
Inspect the belts for wear, fraying, cracks. Make sure they're tight. If not, or the belts are old, replace them.
I think the one you're confusing with the crankshaft seal is the Harmonic Balancer, aka Main Pulley. This is the pulley on the crankshaft that drives all the belts. The Harmonic Balancer is actually two pieces with rubber sandwiched in the middle (to damp out vibration - harmonic balancer!). When the rubber gets old, the two pieces slip. This causes a squeal until the rubber gets hot and things hold together better. It is usually a VERY loud squeal at startup, that goes away after a few seconds. As the pulley continues to disintegrate (none EVER heal themselves), the squeal goes on longer.
If the pulley disintegrates, it will come apart and you'll have no water pump, power steering, or alternator. The car will be undriveable. Before that happens, the outer part of the pulley starts to move backwards, cutting into the oil pump. Not pretty.
The way to check the harmonic balancer is to crawl under the car (when cold!) and draw some chalk lines across the face of the pulley. Then start the car a few times, getting a squeal or two. Shut the car off, and crawl back under. If the two halves have shifted, the lines won't line up, and you know you need a new harmonic balancer. Don't wait on it.
Good luck!
