Love these long Holiday weekends! I managed to fit the right side (86) spindle, caliper and vented rotors onto my 82T after driving for a few days with just the left side complete. Also added two new tie rods. The old right side spindle assembly also had a bad lower ball joint (as did the left side), which explained the rattle on select road conditions. The new spindles, with good ball joints all around, make for a noticably smoother ride. And I have to say I'm impressed with the brakes so far! I gave them a good test Sunday evening by driving up and over the Hollywood Hills via the infamous Laurel Canyon drive - a nearly four mile seriously curved and steep single lane road, in traffic conditions. Lots of braking! It's a roadway peppered with the telltale signatures of innumerable accidents from out of control drivers - skidmarks, paint scraped walls, bashed guard rails galore. My new "old" brakes held up rather well. Better than expected and certainly much better than the replaced solid rotor brakes.
The "funny" part of this job was that I actually did the left side on Friday evening, but when I pulled the wheel for an alignment adjustment the next day after driving a good bit the night before, I discovered that the previously sound outer CV boot had ruptured (probably while I wrestled with the sway bar a-frame bracket using a flat end screwdriver as a pry bar), and grease was splattered all over the just cleaned brake caliper! I spent a few hours Sunday afternoon refitting a new CV boot and repacking the grease on both the outer CV joint as well as the inner driver joint. With all the tighter ball joints and repacked joints, there seems to be a much quieter "road" sound than before. Of course, I now hear all the transmission noises that much better!
