Getting no juice after replacing alternator ground

1988 Saab 900 Turbo Convertible

I was having a problem with my battery draining over night. So I went in search of the problem with a multimeter. No luck there. So I started looking at all the ground wires I could find. The alternator ground to the engine block was looking horrible. The end closest to the engine block was horribly bubbled and green and dry inside what was left of the insulation. So, I replaced it with what I had last night. After I replaced it, I was able to start the car and move it. When I went to start it the next time I realized that none of the dashlights at all were working EXCEPT for the oil light and the parking brake light. Weird. Anyway, I then noticed that the reverse lights weren't working and nor were the blinkers or the convertible top. Not only that, but then the battery discharged while the car was running. The alternator wasn't generating any current.

This morning I went to the hardware store and got a nice thick 8 gauge wire and some beefy end connectors and put this in place of my makeshift ground. No difference. Car will jumpstart, but when it's disconnected it quickly dies. Did the brushes perhaps get horked or is something else really screwed up? Dash lights and everything else don't come on when the jumper cables are put on either so it seems to me something more than the alternator is now screwed.

On a side note, the alternator, voltage regulator and belts were replaced last October. Shortly after the voltage regulator failed, but was replaced for free. Might I just have gotten shitty replacements? Help is much appreciated. I don't want to have to get this thing towed into the shop. Thanks.
