Thank you all for the help so far. I have a 1990 900 (non-turbo) with a problem. It won't start. My "friendly" neighborhood SAAB mechanic tells me that he ran diagnostics and found that the ECM needs to be replaced...to the tune of nearly $800. I have gotten many suggestions about how to check for other problems, but what I want to ask you all is this: Is there a way to test the ECM to see if it is bad? Would there be a visible sign? I will add that the problem is when I turn the key, the car clicks one time (only one)and then does nothing else. All electrics work well, lights come on, etc... and it of course has 3/4 of a tank of gas. All fuses seem to be in working order as well. Since my mechanic seems to be full of it (he actually told me that the cost to replace the ECM was due to the position of the engine), do any of you SAAB gurus have any more suggestions? I am printing all of them so that I can go through them like a checklist. I don't know a whole lot about cars, so anything you guys can offer will be soooo appreciated!! Thanks so much! Ya'll are great!
