Skipping speedometer, clicking noise revisited

Hey everyone,

First off, Thanks Dave N for the initial response. I pulled the speaker grille and pulled off the cable. This is what I observed. The part of the cable that spins was way way down inside. I gathered that the cable was then only partially connected to the speedometer which allows it to skip (this is when I hear the clicking noise) and that is causing my problem. So I used a tweezers and pulled the cable through, simple enough, but when I put the cable back on it pushes back down and I still have the problem.

Any ideas? Has anyone experienced this before? Is my only choice to replace the cable?
