I am presently employed by the leading manufacturer of emission equipment used in the New Jersey Emission program.
Please either post or e-mail me the EXACT readings (from the certificate) for the following gases:-
HC, CO, CO2, NO and O2.
If you do that I can help more.
CO - likely a RICH mixture - check the following:-
DIRTY AIR FILTER
WEAK CATALYTIC CONVERTOR
HIGH FUEL PRESSURE
O2 SENSOR (does the check engine light come on when you drive hard?)
CO2 - You CAN'T have too much CO2, and CO2 is NOT a pass/fail criteria for the New Jersey Emissions test. You can have too LOW CO2, and that is likely exhaust dilution. If the CO PLUS the CO2 is less that 8%, you likely then have a hole in the exhaust. But then the O2 will be high, which I very much doubt in your case.
Send me the data, I'll get you through the test.
