Give Jim at sobstory a call. Rebuilt axles are less than $100 which gives you "new" tripod and "new" outer CV for less than the price of one joint, plus the messy side of the remove/replace and related chance for error is eliminated as they are already on the axle with new boots. Loosen axle nut and inner tripod boot clamp, jack it up, block the upper control arm, remove the lower ball joints and separate the tie rod, swing hub up and out of way while dropping out outer CV out of hub and then manuever axle out of driver. When replacing inner driver watch for a small spring inside.
Check Jeff and Royce's page (search this board) for excellent how to pictures, those guys are amazing - their pictorial is better than any shop manual. You can skip parts of the process if you buy the whole axle, they show you how to replace both joints.
Also order new ball joint bolt kits (cheap) as bolts should not be reused, not sure if you need to redo O ring and bearing seal on driver mount, but Jim will tell you and thats only a few dollars, it stops the typical leaks.
Good luck
