It appears that the subject in this drawing is not wearing the lap belt. I guess the reason this is a drawing as opposed to an actual picture, is that it is such a rarity to find. Lots of cops still say to this day " Inever pulled a dead man from a seat belt". I suppose if I dig deep enough I can find some of the pictures of casualties from airbags, which is alsso well documented.
Again, these air bags were an idea from the 70's, when Government officials found citizens were not wearing seat belts. The auto industry fought it tooth & nail for 20 years. During that time there was a lot of progress in automotive engineering, like disc brakes, anti-lock brakes, radial tires, independant suspension. All of these developments have made driving much safer. You can take ANY car out of the showroom today, and it will out perform my 72 Buick muscle car in any rally race with lots of curves, but watch out on the straight aways. The cars back then were raw horsepower that only like to go in a straight line. Combine that with a drinking age of 18 , and you have a lot of casualties. The biggest factor for no air bag is that I live in New Jersey, which has the lowest fatality rate in the country. The truth is that you can't die in an accident when you are only going 5 MPH.have made driving much safer.

I guess if Dale Earnhardt had an airbag, he'd be alive today

And Please save the abortion pictures for someone else
