bad Hall sensor => no spark Posted by JimBlake [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Checking Hall Sensor on '89 N/A, Mr. Science, Wed, 5 Jun 2002 10:02:48 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
First, I thought you said you had a good spark. If your Hall sensor were bad, you wouldn't have a spark.
Next, regarding your ECU search... I'm pretty sure that '89 was the first year for the crank-mounted Hall sensor, so that *MIGHT* make an '88 ECU incompatible. You might have to find a '90 ECU.
You have to remove the crank pulley to replace the Hall sensor, but you should be able to check the signal with it in place. Follow the wire from the sensor, look for a connector & check the signal there, but I don't know what the signal SHOULD look like. You might need an oscilloscope to check?
Maybe what you should be checking is the tachometer signal to the ECU. The signal from the Hall sensor goes to the EZK ignition, then there's a tachometer signal to the ECU.
