1. ears ago, I asked an indie if the hoses needed to be changed at 100,000 on my 92 900S. He said they never fail so don't worry about it.

2. A month later, attended a meeting at work and pulled into a parking lot, watched our attorney get out of his 91 900 TC and we started talking cars on the way in. His remark: Great car, but don't ever let a radiator hose fail, it cost him $4,000 to repairs his roasted engine, his lower hose split on 95 and he didn't realize it until it was overheated severely.

I replaced my hoses the next weekend, using dealer parts at a cost of $93.

Dealer said all hoses should really be replaced when you are at 100,000 as a precaution. He did not recommend replacing the hoses into the heater box as their computer showed a zero failure/replacement rate.

Make sure if you do the hoses that you replace the small overflow hose into the resevoir - its often overlooked. Also replace the reservoir cap.And do that 90 degree elbow at the front of the head - that's the one you have to worry about. Also, read posts on these board(s) about Mercedes coolant - use something better than Prestone to save your head gasket and head.

The lower hose can be done, you have to remove the two smaller guage hoses from the water pump to the heater valve and reservoir to get clearance ( I replaced those too). You may also have to unbolt either a fuel rail or a metal cooling system "pipe" that permits clearance to the back of the water pump. Its one bolt and you don't open up the system, just push it out of the way. i did them all in about an hour and a half, make sure you bleed the system up at the thermostat housing. And replace that too.

Its doable, but at only 56,000, you may not be concerned if you are not having problems (ie. lower hose is firm when warm, meaning it will not collapse and choke the system).

56,000 miles? 5 speed? Good condition? Want to sell it? What color?

Good luck
