1990 SPG Oil Leak Posted by Randy Thatcher [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() |
113.8k miles, 1990 SPG, running Castrol GTX and Honda MTF. Head gasket at 99k (previous owner)
I'm leaving 1 dime/quarter size drip in the driveway every night. I check the oil and trans fluid often and never need to add any between oil changes. It's more of an annoyance at this point. I cleaned the engine and went on a 550 mile trip the next day. After a bit more driving I started looking for the leak... It's between the block and the oil pan, driver's side (left), towards the front of the car. I tried to snug up the bolts up there, but they're damn tight. In my mind, driveway sealcoat is far cheaper than pulling the engine.
Is there anything I can do about this leak without pulling the engine? Am I correct in thinking I can just live with it if I keep my eye on oil / trans fluid consumption and oil/trans fluid level? What are the options I have here? Any risks in letting it go?
