R134 costs $4/can verses R12 at >$20/can. To convert get a new hose set, expansion valve, and receiver/drier (~$85). The conversion kits at McParts all work. Add the appropriate oil(after you drain compressor). Pull vacuum. Add R134 to low side. Should be a <$120 total weekend. Best part is you will be in charge of your own a/c system. For grins ask a garage for a quote. Simply adding R134 to the existing system is very hit or miss, more miss. Efficiency will not be good, mixing two different oils, etc.
