Need to divide the possible problem a bit finer Posted by Dana [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: No Start When Hot on an 8 valve nonturbo-1983, Stacey, Thu, 13 Jun 2002 17:36:12 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I suspect electronic device failure...question is...ignition control module (loss of spark)....CIS control loss (one of our relays)....fuel pump relay
1. Do you see the tachometer twitch when you try to restart? If not consider the ignition control module or tach pick up.
2. One hot restart attempt do you hear the fuel pump turn on for just a few seconds when the key to turned to the run positon before turning to the start position? If not consider the fuel pump relay is overheating in the hot weather.
3. If #1 or #2 is ok above I would suggest moving on to testing the CIS control module. To do this you need to have a pulse duration meter, dwell angle meter, or multimeter with a "duty" function. It involves jumping out the fuel pump relay, turning the key to "run", and seeing if the modulating valve locks onto a 60/40% pulsation duty. If you were then to lift the black O2 sensor lead wire off the O2 sensor the reading would dip down to below 50/50% and then rise again to 60/40%. Taking the black wire lead of the O2 Sensor off and shorting it to the car body should produce at least a 75/25 ratio (usually a 90/10 ratio).
