Have it checked by an independent mechanic before you buy. You can find a list of recommended Mechanics on this site (http://www.saabnet.com). The mechanic might be able to discover something that might take hundreds of dollars to correct. It is worth the little that is charged to check it out.
The 1993 model 900 has proven to be very reliable. The most frequently noted failure is the head gasket. So have the mechanic check that closely.
Replacing an exhaust on a 900 is pretty simple, and the parts are inexpensive, so that shouldn't be a big bill to have fixed.
These cars are wonderful, reliable cars that run and ride beautifully. They don't really cost much to maintain because they are very reliable, and there are a lot of independent shops that specialize in Saab. I'm sure if you get one in good condition you'll really enjoy it.
