Could you please see my pic which is linked at the bottom of this post (hopefully). Do these look like size of the screws you are refering to?

I found 2 screws in there which i thought held he backing plate in place, is that what you refered to as the "protective plate"? (i only used backing plate as it was the original term used in this thread).

If it is indeed the screws you are refering to, how do you replace them? Is it just a matter of simply taking off the rotor and screwing it into two empty holes (which i'm assuming i'll find back there?)

I venture that the head of the screw gets screwed inbetween the rotor and protective plate, otherwise these screws would have fallen OUT of the car and onto the ground rather than get caught inbetween the rotor and plate like they did.
