i purchased the '85 900t 16v 2-3 months ago, and not long after the master cylinder went out. i replaced that and bled the brakes. later, driving to have the car inspected and on a steep downward slope, the caliper on the right front tire locked up. the heat from that caused the brake pedal to loose pressure and go to the floor. when i pulled to the side of the road, white smoke was coming from the tire & you could feel the heat from it from a few feet away. so, the car was driven carefully home and new calipers were bought for both sides.
the driver's side caliper didn't come with a yoke, but the passenger side yoke did. so the passenger side caliper & yoke was replaced; the driver's side caliper was replaced with the old yoke. the old pads look good so they were left on. the squeak showed up when driven for the first time after caliper replacement.
today i jacked up the front wheels and first turned them manually; didn't hear the squeak. started it and ran it so the wheels spun (still jacked up), with and without the passenger side tire on; still no squeak. when i put it back on the ground and drove it down the road the squeak was there. there isn't rust on the part of the rotor that the brake pads touch and today i tried steelwool on the rust on far inside and far outside edges of the rotor (that the pads don't reach); didn't help.
a stuck parking brake couldn't really be the issue because i have the parking brake cable detached from the passenger side yoke (sticking cable -- yup, another thing to fix).
any help, suggestions, ideas, or anything on the squeaking would be greatly appreciated. it's not one of the more pleasing sounds to hear when you have your windows open, you know? :) if you need any more information, post & let me know.
