Rumbling/Clunking sounds(no its not the wheel bearings)

My 88 SiS developed a strange vibration (sounds like bad wheel bearings) after I let a friend drive it. When I press in the clutch, the sound would stop (cancels out wheel bearings). When I rev the motor(in neutral) while the car is in motion, it will also make the sound. It got worse when I went on a 400 mile trip last week. During my trip, I started hearing a loud clunking sound when I both accelorated, and decelorated. It got worse during the trip, but the clunking stopped for 20 minutes after a made a 15 minute stop. After the trip, the clunking would occure one day, and not do it the next.

Does this have anything to do the control arm I broke a few months ago? What about the stearing rack that leaks like a siv? Could it be the PS pump making the vibration sounds, while the steering rack makes the clunking noises? Is the gearbox gone?

I thought about the gearbox, but prior to this, it never whined or popped out of gear. The rumbling sound is so loud, I can't tell if the tranny is making any noises. I hope to god its not the tranny. I paid too much for the car as it is:o(

Please, help is greatly appreciated. This car is supposed to take me from San Antonio to Seattle next month.
