Probably coincidence at the gas station. Sounds more like a hot soak problem. Try restarting the car at work after you get there and shut off the car for, say, 5 minutes, or approximately the time it takes you to fill the tank at a gas station.
As to why it happens, several possibilities...first I would check the fuel pressure during the time this happens...you may be able to install a fuel pressure gage under the hood so you can monitor fuel pressure with the engine turned off. IMHO such a gauge should be installed at the factory, but it will never happen.
Low enough pressure (BTW, check valve failure at the intank fuel pump) coupled with summer heat and maybe even the new oxygenated fuels...where are you tanking up, ehhh, in smoggy Montreal?...can lead to vapor lock.
Fuel pump relay issues...maybe you just have deteriorated wiring or bad grounds...one of my saabs did...had to cut 1" off all the wires at the engine manifold ground, reterminate, solder, and reattach. Cost me a new ecu on the way (but the service dept did the wiring job 6 mos later no cost, #$%$%, but wouldn't refund/replace the ecu.
