As I recall there is a retaining screw that hold it on. To gain access to the screw you must push the material down (at the top of the seat, not the headrest). It is located about 2 inches down from the top on the seat back (assuming you are sitting in the seat and then turn around. The screw must be completely removed. Once removed the battle is not over. I believe there are clips in the top of the seat(where the headrest bar enters the seat)that must be manipulated to get the headrest out. It can be done.
