does the hose to the advance diaphragm go before...

or after the throttle plate. i had it plugged in before the plate (the hose went from the nipple on the advance unit to the one of the two nipples right before the throttle plate on top of the throttle body.), and my car idled at 14 inches of Hg, and skipped badly at idle. it seemed that the vacuum before the throttle plate wasn't strong enough to open the diaphragm, and advance the timing at vacuum. now, with the hose going from the advance unit to the first hose fitting after the throttle plate (much stronger vacuum), the car miraculously idles at the normal 19-20 inches of mercury, and seems to skip/pop less at idle and low rpm's. since this first hose fitting was the one for the valve cover breather, i moved that hose (the one from the intake manifold to the valve cover) to a nipple before the throttle plate. this set-up seems to work great, but seems odd to have there be a hose from before the plate to after it. if anyone can tell me what i am doing wrong, or tell me i'm doing it right, please do. thanks.
