engine sputtering / advice?

the other day one of my front fans went out, car suddenyl ran hot and i notices smoke and an electrical smell, comin from the plug for the ac fan. my mechanic put in a new one and all was well, but he mentioned that they had noticed it sputtering but it seemed to have stopped. i had never done this before that day. i pulled away and, later that day for for three days now, this has gotten worse. it seems like it is running out of gas or water in the gas line, or something like that. When it is cold and you crank it it is fine, for a minute. Within a mile of two it starts sputtering, jumps, has no pull, then for a few blocks it will suddenly be fine and run fine, then immediately start supttering again. I barely got home 2 miles last night and when I did I noticed that part of the exhaust system was glowing red and smoke was pouring out from underneart, but being night I couldn't tell form where. Does anyone have any advice for me?
