You CAN replace the front wheel bearings without a press. You will need a suitable drift the size of the outer race (An old piece of pipe will do), a freezer and a decent set of torches,or a good oven. Use the pipe to remove the old bearing (after you remove the C clips). Then take the new bearing apart, leaving just the outer race. If you pry just under the inner race the fiber washer holding the bearing together will slide out and you can remove the ball bearing assembly. Put the outer race in the freezer for awhile along with the hub, one or two beers worth. Heat the knuckle assembly with a torch, (if it starts to melt wheel bearing grease then its too hot. Retreive the race and gently insert it in the knuckle using the pipe as a drift. Put the C ring on the bottom side of the knuckle so the race is properly seated and insert the upper ball bearing assembly. Put in the fiber washer with a generous amount of wheel bearing grease and C ring. Turn unit over and remove C ring and put in the bearing assemly, fiber washer and C ring. Go get the hub from the freezer. The hub should slide into the knuckle assembly with very little resistance. Of course you have to be sure that you keep the bearing assembly very clean. This may be a crude method but it does work. Good luck.-Dave F.
