check wiring? Posted by JimBlake [Email] (#141) [Profile/Gallery] (more from JimBlake) on Tue, 9 Jul 2002 08:21:07 In Reply to: fuel pump, fuel starvation, then fuel gauge failure?, geoffh, Tue, 9 Jul 2002 02:57:06 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Remove the floor of the trunk (2 screws) & look for 2 round covers that are held in place by rubber gaskets. The big one is for the fuel pump, the little one is for the fuel gauge sender. Pop them off.
The wires for the fuel gauge sender go across the opening for the fuel pump, & they kinda get in the way when you replace the pump. Are all the plugs tight? Check all the electrical connectors you can find. I'm just guessing that he may not have plugged them back together securely, or maybe they're just dirty or corroded? Anyway, its an easy thing to check before getting into serious troubleshooting. I don't remember exactly where the ground connections are, look around for one back there & check it too.
You seem "unhappy" with the mechanic... Would you suspect he was careless like this? Maybe something got into the tank & is plugging up the pump inlet screen? Or maybe the wires got pinched/broken/stepped-on?
Except for being together in the bundle, I don't think the fuel pump & the gauge really share any wiring...
