Maybe you've got pin out by now. But if not, you may be interested in this. What I use is press using a two jaw puller with 5 inch long arms and a saddle with a hole in it and two edges for the puller to get good grip on. Saddle tool can be made using hand tools from 3/4-inch square stock available from any hardware store. The saddle has a hole in it that fits loosely over the non-threaded fat end of the taper pin. You simply pull out the shift selector rod, hook the puller legs over the edges of the saddle, and tighten slowly until the pin pops out. Also need to put a rag over fat end of taper pin and saddle, because when it pops out, it really takes off. Also recommend wearing safety glasses with side shields or safety goggles for eye protection.
