The passenger side wiper is directly driven via solid linkages from the wiper motor. The driver side wiper is run by a laterally moving piece of linkage with a cable wrapped around a pulley on the wiper shaft. The pulley is press fit on the shaft and a common failure is for the pulley to fall off of the back of the shaft. This results in a free floating drivers' wiper. If you are lucky the pulley will still be stuck somewhere in the linkage.

To get the whole wiper assembly out is quite simple. Take off the two wiper blade arms, and remove the two black rubber fill in pieces under the wiper arms. This will expose two 10mm bolts. Remove these and make sure not to lose the spacers in the rubber mounts. There are two more 10mm bolts at the lower end of the wiper motor, in between the firewall and the AC compressor. The easiest way to get the wiper assembly out is to also move the AC compressor. (although I have heard it is possible to get it out without doing this, but it makes it SO much easier) Remove the two 6mm allen bolts on the top of the AC compressor bracket, and then just loosen the one 12mm hex head bolt way down sort of under the alternator. This bolt is easy to get to if you kneel with your knees on the top of the the valve cover (be careful of the breather nipple), and your feet on the inner fender. Reach in with your left arm (remember to take the 12mm 12pt wrench). Since you have a 90, the AC bracket is slotted, meaning you onlu have to loosen thius bolt a couple of turns and pull the entire bracket up and towards the firewall. You should probably unhook the single wire going to the compressor also. Once the AC is conveniently tucked out of the way, just rotate the wiper assembly down and out.

Once out you can assess the damage. The assembly of the drivers wiper shaft would normally be in the following order. Two bushings are pressed into the aluminum wiper frame pivot. The pulley is pressed on the shaft. Then a wave spring washer and a nylon sealing washer are dropped onto the shaft. The shaft is then slid up through the wiper frame pivot bushings. A sealing o-ring is dropped on, a cover washer and then a spring clip to hold the whole thing together. Since your pulley fell off, you may have lost the wave spring washer and the nylon washer under the pulley. Take the shaftout, and press the pulley back on. Then drill a hole throught the pulley hub and shaft and press in a spring pin. This will ensure that the pulley doesn't ever fall off again. Reassemble the pivot shaft. The hardest part is getting the cable back on the pulley. To do this, remove the linkage with the cable from its pivot. This will allow enough manipulation room to coax the cable back on. If you are lucky, there is a little nut tensioning the cable. If this isn't rusted beyond recognition then you can loosen the cable and slip it back on much easier.
