tranny gurus... drive chain vs. pinion??? Tranny experts... Wouldn't a busted pinion make bad noises when you push the car??? Or at least make bad noises while you drive it before it breaks? Or do you think the clutch shaft or drive chains just DON'T BREAK?
Draughon - I'd hope for a broken clutch shaft or front drive chain. They're easier or cheaper than a busted transmission. Of course, put some oil back in there.
Are you going to DIY? You could take off the plastic cover over the clutch & have a look. Also the cover over the front drive chain, up next to the radiator.
If you take off the front drive chain cover, try this... Put it "in gear", without the engine running, then push the car. The drive chain should turn as you push the car. If it turns, then look for a broken clutch shaft or something up there. If the chain is broken, well, you'll see that...
Also, if you want more DIY advice, maybe post a new message. The trouble is narrowed down a bit, & sometimes I'm too lazy to look back at older threads. I've done my clutch but never had to rebuild the transmission on a 900. So you'll probably get better advice from other people, too.
