How much fuel was in the tank? I'm wondering about the fuel feed pump, Seem to remember when my 84 burped it was on hot days under 1/2 tank and that was the cuprit. And it gets its power through the main pump relay too. The other thing that gave me "burps" in my 80 was the overboost cutout switch. (up under the dash, T'd into the line to the gauge)
Also check the normal culprits, distributor pickup connector, Fuse block connector (by your left foot), ignition switch getting hot.
I've only had one ignition module go intermitant on my 88, it was not heat related, just got a mind of its own.Would die any time for 1 second to 5 minites.
I always carried a couple of long pieces of wire, my theroy was if all else failed I could hook the fuel pump up right to the battery.
Boy do I miss those mountain roads! 12 tears in the PNW, now in Georgia.
