First off, Howdy folks. I have been lurking around this board for a while.
A couple months back I purchased an 84 Turbo with a whole bunch of little problems for a small sum of money. Seeing that the car was real straight, had good paint, no prior collision damage, tight motor and gearbox, I bought it with the intentions of fixing everything and learning about Saabs while I go.
Well, for the most part I have done quite a bit to it with no major probs. But a couple things still are beyond my grasp and now I reach out to you folks for some help.

1. Wiper motor will run the wipers when they are in the up and away from the windsheild position, but as soon as you place them back on the glass, it stops. BUT you can still hear the motor running. I pulled the motor and the linkage today thinking something might be loose or the pulley had come off. To my untrained eye, nothing was out of place or loose. Inside the "transmission" the plastic gear looks good as well as the worm gear. With the motor away from the linkage and the tranny cover off, I ran the motor and applied alot of force on the plastic gear to feel if the motor was weak. Nothing, it ran strong and I couldnt stop it by hand.
I put the whole assembly back together to find it doing the same thing. Still seems like its in the tranny or the motor might be too weak to run the assembly.
What should I look for? Should I just break down and buy the motor and tranny?

2. Speedometer wasnt working when I bought the car. The owner said "that the cable just broke" So I ordered a cable, replaced it, and still no speedo. I fear that he broke it trying to roll it back, but its too late to do anything now. All I can hope for is to get it working or replace it.
Is it easy to replace the speedo assembly? Which peices would I need? Or is there a gear inside that might have stripped or broken?

Thanks alot,
Todd in Hollywood
